Christopher E. Smythe
President

Mr. Smythe has been active in the commercial real estate business since 1984. He has considerable experience in real estate investment, asset management, investment brokerage, syndication, and development finance. He is a graduate of University School in Cleveland and Williams College. He received his MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. His previous work experience includes the Wells Fargo Realty Advisors in Chicago, Cragin Lang, Inc, (now Grubb and Ellis) in Cleveland and most recently the Chartwell Group, LLC in Cleveland.

Mr. Smythe started and was responsible for Chartwell's investment and asset management activities. He also handled various investment brokerage assignments. Mr. Smythe, a licensed broker, has successfully sold or consulted on approximately $229,000,000 of office, apartment, retail, and mixed-use properties during his career. Additionally, Mr. Smythe has also acted as a principal in several successful real estate investments. As a managing member he oversees the affairs of eleven investment partnerships comprising over $60,000,000 of property and serves as an asset consultant on several others.  

In March, 2005 Mr. Smythe started Smythe Property Advisors, LLC, a Cleveland-based real estate investment and management concern.  The company has 17 employees and currently handles select brokerage assignments and provides property management for eight investment properties.

Mr. Smythe is active as a Trustee of University School serving on its Executive Committee and Chairing the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He is also past president of the U.S. Alumni Association. He is the current President and Trustee of the Northern Ohio Apartment Association, and a Trustee and Chairman of the Suicide Prevention Education Alliance. He is a past Vestry member for St. Paul’s Church in Cleveland Heights.

Leah Terkel
Accounting Manager

Leah Terkel has over 15 years experience as a property accounting manager. Prior to joining Smythe Property Advisors Ms. Terkel provided for 10 years various partnership accounting and property management accounting functions to Omni Realty Companies, LLC, a large Cleveland-area developer. She has experience with Skyline and Peachtree property management accounting software. Ms. Terkel is a native Clevelander and has BFA in Education from Kent State University. She is active as a volunteer in the Beachwood City Schools.

Sandra DeRose
Administrative Accounting Assistant

Sandra DeRose joined Smythe Property Advisors, LLC in February 2008. Ms. DeRose was the Executive Secretary to the CEO and the Accounting Assistant to the CFO of the Heritage Development Company for six years prior to joining the team at Smythe Property Advisors. Ms. DeRose assists Leah Terkel, Accounting Manager, with property management accounting functions as well as providing office support in her current position as Administrative Accounting Assistant. Ms. DeRose resides in Lyndhurst.
